El Castillo de Conesa, #SanMigueldeSalinas from 3 different angles. It is possibly Spain´s most modern medieval castle?!! It was built on the site of a former gypsum (yeso) quarry which was an important local industry until a few decades ago. If you venture out into the countryside surrounding San Miguel, you will see sparkling grey-white rocks amongst the sand. That´s the gypsum! You might even see some abandoned cottages with large ovens. They aren´t pizza ovens. They were to "cook" the gypsum to turn it into plaster. If you are feeling hungry though, the castle is now home to Restaurante Alingui! The castle is also a wedding venue, taking advantage of the moorish charm of our very own Alhambra Palace!
