What a fantastic turnout it was yesterday for the annual San Miguel de Salinas Christmas 10k Run and 5k walk! With over 300 participants this year (plus one doggy - see the video above!), many of who really got into the spirit of things, dressing up as Christmas characters, superheroes, and some even came in full running gear!! It has been a great weekend, with the Christmas fair taking place too, just the thing to get us really into the Christmas spirit! ¡Gracias San Miguel de Salinas! I took over 800 photos of the run yesterday! These are just a small selection of them, but if you want to see them all and you have half an hour to spare, go to https://photos.app.goo.gl/cRXpJrG4qo4p5HQ17

This morning was another beautiful sunny autumn morning, so we headed off to the dog beach in the Furrari with Ozzie and Gino. They had a great time as usual, and all the dogs gave the humans yet another lesson in how to behave nicely with each other and have a good time! Then it was a late breakfast/brunch at Flamingos bar nearby, which along with Willow and the Surfers Bar were doing good business serving like-minded dog-walkers and non-dog-walkers alike with their breakfasts in the sun! Then it was back home to give the dogs a good hosing down. It´s been a great weekend so far, because we went to see a band called Morgan at the Cartagena jazz festival last night, and they were EXCELLENT. Their lead singer Nina has an incredible voice.

A couple of weeks ago, Sorelle and I visited Cartagena for the first time in quite a while, and were reminded of how close it is (only a 40 minute drive from San Miguel) and what a fine place it is to spend the day. In previous visits we´ve been up to the castle to admire the view of the harbour, visited the Roman theatre and also the civil war museum located in the air-raid shelters in the belly of the hill underneath the castle. All highly-recommended, and the civil war museum is an absolute must even if you´re not a massive history buff as it´s absolutely fascinating. This time however we parked for free here (https://maps.app.goo.gl/FfbBSvZu6KCsf2pn7) and walked along the front (past where the cruise liners dock) to the city centre. There are plenty of places to stop for a coffee and a snack, and plenty of elegant historic buildings to admire in the city centre. The café we found (photo and link below) did really good batatas bravas!
Sorelle had booked us on a boat trip to visit Algameca Chica - a ramshackle shanty town further down the coast, but due to rough seas, the trip was shortened to a tour of the harbour, which was very interesting! Why? Well, not only was the captain of our vessel very informative about all the different military installations (eg submarine bases) and types of fishing vessel etc, but we were also witness to the Guardia Civil bringing in a captured drug-running speedboat, and we had to give a couple of guys a tow who were stranded in their tiny boat in choppy waters! All very entertaining.
On the way home we stopped off at the large shopping complex on an industrial estate (Polígono Industrial Cabezo Beaza) just outside Cartagena with an enormous Media Markt amongst many other stores in the Espacio Mediterraneo shopping centre (https://maps.app.goo.gl/4kZe1REPXAA86ndc6).
It was another really enjoyable day out in Cartagena - well worth a visit!

Snacks at Kuss Cafetería (https://maps.app.goo.gl/xZcGGocXzDQothgaA) - very nice batatas bravas, and the portions are very generous!!

"We are from Scotland and previously bought an apartment in San Miguel over a decade ago. Recently, we decided to buy again as we are retiring soon.
We had a much more positive experience this time; it was more relaxed, no pressure to buy, stress free and uncomplicated through VILLAS FOX.
An estate agency made up of a family team, who have the skills, knowledge and expertise to find us our ideal property (which a large established agency did not do first time round), meeting all, our requirements ( by the way we are very fussy people with high standards), within our price range.
If you are looking for a professional agency, who treat you as a real person, an individual, listen to your needs, act with integrity and are honest, look no further.
Well done Andy, Sorelle and Ollie
THANK YOU for finding us our DREAM HOME"
