Now that the August crowds have died down, we decided to check out the progress at the newly-opened but not-quite-finished Paseo del Mar shopping centre and leisure complex on Sunday.
We had a very pleasant relaxing time there, checking out the shops and restaurants that have already opened, and enjoying the views of the nearby marina.
Have you been yet? It´s not quite on the scale of La Zenia Boulevard, but it´s a great setting on the water´s edge and I imagine it will be very popular!

A massive "WELL DONE!" to all the participants and organisers of the annual Carrera Popular 6k run and 3k walk that took place yesterday in San Miguel de Salinas. It was a great pleasure to be able to take some photographs, videos and cheer on the brave runners and walkers who filled our streets with sweat haha! This was the first event of this year´s fiestas, and what a great way to start the celebrations! It was followed by an all-night punk and ska concert, and if anybody ran the race and then stayed till the end of the concert, we´d like to hear from you, mainly to check that you´re OK !!

Well, we had a lovely day out in Elche today. It´s been a while since we´ve been but we always enjoy it. The first job is always to find a nice cafe to have a coffee and maybe a cake for breakfast, after the long drive (ahem), and we found a winner this time. It wasn´t the most appealing from the outside but we´d already passed lots of cafés that were full and we were really ready to stop. It turned out to have its own bakery in the back, and the napolitana pastry we shared was nothing short of amazing. I will try to find the location and post it here. Found it! There was a wedding party about to enter the basilica, so that´s always nice to see. There was a definite green theme going on, (including the cars), which of course reminded us of our dear friend Caz :-(
Then we decided to take in the free exhibition in the archaeology museum which was a Bacchus (god of wine) theme.
By then it was time for another drink or two at another nice cafe next to the museum, watching the pigeons try to steal nuts off the tables.
A long walk back to the car which was parked next to the Aljub shopping centre, and we couldn´t resist their air-con.....and another café! We bought some plants for the office fish tanks, a dog toy for Gino, a couple of oversized mugs to replace the ones I´ve broken, and then back to San Miguel and.....another watering hole - this time the castle where we had a very nice late lunch, thank you!
Hope you enjoy the pics.
