Last Saturday saw the annual ceremony of the crowning of the new queens, princes and princesses in our town of San Miguel de Salinas. It´s also the event that marks the point where we know the fiestas are officially in full swing! (With the famous San Miguel tapas trail taking place on the following day, which as usual was also an event enjoyed by hundreds of sanmigueleros and visitors to the town too!)
The coronation ceremony is also marked by the speech of the "pregonero" or "pregonera". This year a very dear friend of ours was honoured to be the pregonera. Many of you will know Irene as being the former headmistress at the Gloria Fuertes primary school here in San Miguel. When we arrived in 2005 Irene was not the headmistress then, but she was Ollie´s first teacher and the love and kindness she showed to him, to all our family, and to all her pupils in her care was something that helped us tremendously to assimilate into our new life in Spain.
So CONGRATULATIONS Irene on being the VIP for the fiestas this year - and for a great speech which we can actually enjoy with subtitles too thanks to Youtube!
